replace / add icons on top bar from Fontawesome

I want to add icons on the top bar, but they are an empty square (from fontawesome).
How can I import new icons?
I want the green checkbox icon next to a sentence on the top bar. Like this: https://snag.gy/HCO0zY.jpg
